By far, the greatest role of this award is that it recognises the excellent work that these veterans have put into the craft and what they have achieved. Throughout history, humanity has made an effort to acknowledge humans who have achieved extraordinary things and then rewarded, recognised, and rewarded them. There are various reasons for this, including serving as a source of encouragement to others. The people who make up the VFL/AFL Team of the Century can be described as remarkable, to state the least. They have broken grounds in the game and have raised the bar high. It is therefore only logical that they are acknowledged for what they have done.
Preserving History
The times roll by quite fast, and events happen all the time. As they do, we tend to forget past events and with them the remarkable and notable happenings. If this is the case, the works of excellent people do not get acknowledged. However, to avoid this, we have designed awards and recognition to ensure that history is preserved and the deserving people remembered. The VFL/AFL Italian Team of the Century award, in a way, preserves the rich history of not only the Victorian and Australian Football Leagues but also that of the Italian community in Australia.
The above and more are why the VFL/AFL Team of the Century award was established. However, we have gone further to preserve the history and memory of the work these people have done. We have set up memorabilia to commemorate and symbolise the award.
The memorabilia exists in the form of souvenirs that symbolise the award. Currently, there is a jumper that has been framed. Inside of the frame is inscribed and engraved the names of the winners of the award. However, the engraving was done to place each player’s name in the exact position that he occupied and played from during his active years. Thus, you can contribute to acknowledging the work of these veterans by acquiring one of these memorabilia.
